The Top 3 Refrigerator Problems That Require Immediate Repair

A fridge is an essential appliance for any household, and it can make a big impact on your energy bills. That’s why it’s important to identify when you need an immediate repair.

• Frozen Water Line

If your refrigerator’s water dispenser isn’t working, it could be the frozen water line that is causing the issue. You may be able to thaw out this line with a hair dryer or turkey baster filled with hot water. Frozen water lines are a common problem that can cause your ice maker and water dispenser to malfunction. It can also result in clogged and leaky lines. Refrigerators often have water lines that run from a supply line near the back of the appliance to the water dispenser and ice maker. These lines must stay at a consistent temperature to ensure the water flow is smooth. Even the best water lines are susceptible to repeated exposure to cold and outside moisture, so it is essential to monitor your appliance’s temperature. You can easily do this by placing a thermometer between packets inside your refrigerator.

• Clogged Defrost Drain

One of the top refrigerator problems that require immediate repair is a clogged defrost drain. This drain tube takes melt water produced by the defrost cycle out of a self-defrosting refrigerator and then funnels it to a pan underneath where it evaporates. The problem usually happens when ice builds up in the defrost tube and prevents it from draining properly. When this happens, water will pool under the fruit and vegetable bins and along the floor of the freezer compartment. A clogged drain tube can be repaired by using a pipe cleaner to clean out the blockage or by removing it and running warm water through it. However, if this doesn’t solve the problem, it’s time to call in a professional refrigerator repair person.

• Overly Noisy Refrigerator

Another issue that needs immediate attention is an overly noisy refrigerator. It’s easy to spot a loud refrigerator by the humming sound it makes, which is typically caused by a faulty compressor motor or condenser fan. For example, if you hear a loud humming sound from your refrigerator, it’s likely the compressor coils that dissipate heat. When this happens, the compressor will have to work harder to dissipate the heat it’s producing and you will hear a loud humming noise from your refrigerator. This is a common cause of an overly noisy refrigerator and it can be easily fixed by cleaning the compressor coils.
